The ancient charm of the blue Island

An historical and prestigious summer home in Capri, just a brief distance from Marina Grande

Capri, a magic Island, where beauty and grandeur chase each other relentlessly and the enchantment of the wild nature mixes with the fragrances and colours of the Mediterranean Sea.
Enchanted by its atmosphere, the charming Countess Mona von Bismarck, an eclectic American woman with an attractive beauty, hosted friends and International celebrities in her mansion named “The Fortress (Il Fortino)” between the 1940s and 1970s. Mona discovered Capri in the late 1920s, when she gets married for the second time to Harrison Williams, the richest man in America, and celebrates her honeymoon with a long cruise that touched the ports halfway around the world, one of them is Naples and its wonderful Bay. When her yacht got closer to Capri and passed by Marina Grande, Mona glimpsed a formidable mansion in a state of abandonment and got interested and decided to buy it. Mona bought it in 1938 to add mythical historical event to a place that was already a myth.

The first one to inhabit that hill was the Roman Emperor Augustus and his successor Tiberius. The former had 12 mansions built there in 27 B.C., each of them dedicated to one of the Olympian Gods, and the latter had several works restored and completed, specifically the Imperial Palace, which was known as Palace by the Sea over the years..

When they ask me where I was born I answer Naples, but I’d like to add that
Capri raped me many years ago.
Un endeless love, made up of colours and scents, of deep blue sea, of high society and quiet that live together perfectly…
Capri is a magic place and for me the best satisfaction is to read on my guests faces an expression child of the same charm…

What to do in Capri

Events, excursions, museums, shopping and nightlife. The island is known to be a favourite destination for the international jet set. But its residents and everyday travellers also love it for its quietness, hidden treasures and breath-taking beauty. Everywhere!

Where to eat

No farther than 100 yards from the Relais, the restaurant da Paolino: internationally renowned, for the Mediterranean cuisine lovers one of Capri’s top favourites for over 40 years. For a soothing atmosphere and view on the Gulf of Naples, da Gemma, with itsLounge Bar and Beach Club, is an excellent choice. As an alternative,Lo Smeraldo, which offers similar ambiance and excellent menu. A tad farther, but still within walking distance, the Approdo and Lo Zodiaco, located in the Touristic Harbour, where one may have the impression to have landed somehow inside a postcard. And also,Da Tiberio, unmissable. It can be also reached with the characteristic small boat…
For the sushi lovers in the historical centre (Piazzetta Cerio, 11) there is IKI CAPRI, a Japanese restaurant with a terrace bar, where one may taste extravagant drinks and enjoy an easy-going ambiance. And should you find yourself, perhaps driven by curiosity, strolling in the flowers’ scent, you may not want to miss a romantic dinner at Il Geranio

Sightseeing
The Giardini d’Augusto (Augustus’ gardens) are worldwide famous. Built at the dawn on the 20th century on a design from Alfred Krupp, they represent a pinnacle in Botanic mastery. A stroll in the gardens may be a delight not only for the sense of smell, but also for the sight, as one gets to admire from the terraces the majesty of the Faraglioni, the bay of Marina Piccola, and the bottom of the Certosa di San Giacomo… If one starts from via Krupp, the scenery is even more picturesque, with its sharp bends trapped between the rocks and the sea. Also, not to be missed la Miglieraad Anacapri, a lovely hike surrounded by fields and vineyards, where one can also spot the sea from steep cliffs. Also in Anacapri, we recommend the Monte Solaro and Cetrella. Mount Solaro summit can be reached with a chair-lift or by hiking. It offers a spectacular view, at 360 degrees: it is the highest point on the island of Capri. From its terraces it is possible to admire the Faraglioni as well as the urban center of Capri. Rising the sight just a little, one can see the Sorrento Peninsula, the Galli islands and the whole gulf of Naples. When the sky is clear, one may also spot the gulf of Salerno.

The sigh one enjoys from the Eremo di Cetrella is just as lovely. From its gardens one can see Marina Grande, Monte Tiberio, Marina Piccola, i Faraglioni and the Sorrento coast. In especially clear days, it is possible to see the Salerno inland, its mountains, and the South coast, all way down to the Beacon of Punta Licosa… not bad!

Gite in barca

The property was beautifully presented by our hosts Alexandra and Luca. It was spotlessly clean and we had extra linen available for our guests Luca met us in person at the marina and arranged for our family friends and luggage to be transported to the apartment The location was great out if the way but close to the marina. The garden was extensive with many little places to relax and enjoy the sun The villa is very private nestled behind two walled doors Modern kitchen plenty of essentials We arrived to a magnificent platter of fresh fruit breakfast and jams which made us feel at home Little extras were considered and provided such as cable adaptors and complimentary colourful tea towels Luca also arranged for a boat and skipper to take us in a tour of the island and arranged for the best coffee and paninis prior to boarding. This trip was a real highlight for our family and we toured the various grottoes and had a few swims in the sea and observed some of the beautiful cliff villas from the water Our friend from Australia recommended that we stay in Capri for 3 days rather than day trips which was an inspired suggestion – Capri at night and early is peaceful and spectacular. Sunset at Faro memorable dinner at Da Tonino and Gennaro Amitrano both major highlights

Nice location, clean rooms, flower and trees in the garden, the staff are very kind and always available.
It would be good to have a dish wash machine.
